OGSG TRAINS OBAS, POSITIONS THEM AS HEARTBEAT OF COMMUNITIES.
The  Institution of an Oba in Ogun State has been described as an embodiment of values and  customs, functioning as the heartbeat of grassroot communities.

This assertion was made by the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun at a 1-day Orientation Programme organised by the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Oke-Mosan for newly installed Obas across  the State.

Abiodun,  represented by his Chief of Staff, Dr. Oluwatoyin Taiwo at the training themed, "Traditional Rulers , the Harbingers of Good Governance", noted that royal fathers were the first responders in the event of disputes and the primary custodians of justice and peace. 

 According to him, the event could not have been more apt as it underscored the central roles royal fathers play towards the sustenance of peace, order  and progress within  communities,  functioning as the bridge between the government and the people.

"Obas are the moral compasses of communities and the living embodiments of values, customs  and collective aspirations of the people", he said.

His is address, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon Ganiyu Hamzat, said the training which was part of the resolutions reached at the Ogun State Council of Obas  meeting  earlier in the year, was a plan to  equip newly installed Obas with the needed knowledge to function appropriately in their respective domains.

"This orientation programme will equip all participants who are relatively new in the system, with the skills and expertise necessary to successfully transverse challenges in the exercise of authority in this contemporary age", he said.

In his remarks, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr. Rotimiolu Akinlesi disclosed that the Ministry, beyond installation, would continue to do the needful at developing and placing premium responsibilities on the Obaship stool for the overall good of the State.

He stated that the workshop was designed to serve as a platform for knowledge sharing, orientation and capacity building.

In his goodwill message, Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba (Dr) Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo who appreciated the Ministry for the  initiative at developing the capacities of the Obas, enjoined  participants to take advantage of the training for the benefit of expanding their capacities to rule and for the advancement of their respective kingdoms .

Facilitators at the training;  Permanent Secretary and Solicitor General, Ministry of Justice, Mr. Olusegun  Olaotan, a former Permanent  Secretary, now, Elese of Ilese - Ijebu, Oba Oluremi Obayomi, Surveyor General of Ogun State, Bureau of Lands and Survey, Surv. Ebenezer Ewulo and Onirolu of Irolu, Oba Sikiru Adeyiga in their presentations addressed topics bordering on the roles of an Oba, protocols, land management, Community Rulership,  and community development  among others.

A participant at the training, Alaparaki of Aparaki, Oba. Prof. Julius Adeniyi Ogunfowora in his remark expressed gratitude saying the Obas' training was commendable as it would enhance capacities for efficient  rulership in respective territories.
