OGUN TESCOM RENAMES ZONAL SECRETARY'S POSITION, WARNS PRINCIPALS, OTHERS AGAINST SHARP PRACTICES
The Ogun State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), says the position of Zonal Secretary has been renamed to be Zonal Coordinating Principal.
The TESCOM Chairman, Apostle 'Biodun Sanyaolu disclosed this at the end of a screening exercise for 41 prospective Zonal Coordinating Principals, 105 Principals, and 250 Vice Principals in public secondary schools across the state, held at African Church Grammar School, Ita-Eko, Abeokuta.
The Commission Chairman , who said the decision was part of the restructuring in the Zonal administration of staff under the Commission, noted that the move was imperative to correct the '"overdue aberration" of placing Zonal Secretaries above Principals, adding that the new arrangement aligns with Civil Service Rules and Regulations.
He stated that TESCOM was committed to repositioning the teaching workforce for efficient service delivery, adding that the Commission’s transformation agenda was geared toward growth in the education sector.
“The present administration in this Commission is determined to ensure that things are done in the proper perspective. We are doing everything possible to elevate the teaching workforce and enhance their capacities for growth and development in the course of their duties,” he said.
The TESCOM boss assured that the screening exercise would be held at regular intervals to aid career progression, urging prospective the candidates to shun sharp practices, desist from lobbying for postings, and maintain cordial relationships with themselves for effective school administration.
Also speaking, the Full-Time Commissioner i, and Chairman of the Screening Committee, Hon. Adeola Akintande, said the exercise was successful, saying the candidates demonstrated competence for the positions.
Also speaking, the President of the All Nigeria Conferation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), Ogun State chapter, Mr. Alaba Olugbewesa, commended the state government and TESCOM for conducting the exercise.
Olugbewesa described various initiatives of TESCOM as positive step toward strengthening the administration and management of public secondary schools in the state.
In his remarks, the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Ogun State Chapter, Comrade Noah Sewakanu lauded the efforts of commission for its ingenuity, pledging the union’s continued support for government policies and programmes.
Speaking on behalf of other candidates, Mr. Akindele Agemo, Mr. Johnson Dehinbo and Mrs. Olufunke Oguntoyinbo described the exercise as a worthwhile step that would prepare them for the positions ahead.
