Don't Turn a Blind Eye to Tinubu's Achievements, Wike Tells Opposition
ABUJA, October 15, 2026 — The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has urged opposition politicians to acknowledge the achievements of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration, stressing that political differences should not prevent an objective assessment of government policies and performance.
Wike made the call on Wednesday, October 14, during the inauguration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council in Abuja, where he addressed party leaders, governors and other political stakeholders.
Speaking at the event, the former Rivers State governor reaffirmed his political identity as a member and leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), while explaining his support for President Tinubu. He argued that party affiliation should not prevent politicians from recognising policies and decisions they consider beneficial to the country.
Wike also faulted opposition narratives suggesting that the Tinubu administration lacked direction, maintaining that the President had demonstrated the political will to confront difficult national challenges that previous administrations had struggled to address.
On national security, the FCT minister expressed confidence in the administration's ability to tackle insecurity. He also highlighted the proposed establishment of state police as a reform that could strengthen security management and improve responses to local security challenges.
The proposal for state police has continued to generate nationwide debate, with stakeholders expressing differing views on its potential benefits, constitutional implications, funding, accountability and the relationship between federal and state authorities.
Wike further challenged members of the Presidential Campaign Council to translate their political influence and appointments into measurable results within their respective areas of responsibility.
He stressed the importance of demonstrating tangible achievements rather than relying solely on official positions or political influence.
A review of the inauguration proceedings by the Media and Publicity Team of the Forum of Chief Executives of Federal Parastatals (FORCEPA) identified Wike's intervention as one of the notable contributions to discussions surrounding governance, political accountability and national development.
The inauguration also attracted political figures from different parties, including Anambra State Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo and Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke.
According to the FORCEPA Media and Publicity Team, the gathering provided an opportunity to document the perspectives of political stakeholders on governance, security reforms, public accountability and the relationship between political competition and national development.
The forum maintained that assessments of government performance should be based on verifiable policies, measurable outcomes and the experiences of Nigerians across different sectors.
It added that constructive political engagement and objective evaluation of government policies were essential to strengthening democratic accountability and advancing national development.
