Invest More In Housing Sector, Building Expert Urges Governments
A call has gone to government at all levels to invest more in the housing sector to make decent and affordable accommodation accessible to low-income earners in the country.

The call was made the Chairman, Ogun State chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Building, Builder Ogunsola Adebayo while featuring on OGBC's on a programme Sunday Morning Live on FM.

Builder Adebayo noted that owning a home remains a lifelong dream for many Nigerians, but rising costs of building materials, land and other financial challenges has continued to make the dream difficult to achieve, particularly for low income earners in the country,

He stressed the need for the government to embrace proper planning, innovative building methods and affordable housing schemes to address the challenges facing prospective homeowners.

“Indeed, there is a need for government at all levels to make building materials affordable for the commoners and low income earners in the country, so as to address the housing deficit across the country, as well as to sustain investment in affordable housing programmes to enable more Nigerians to own houses and improve their living conditions.” Builder Adebayo said.

The Chairman of the Nigerian Institute of Building called on the Nigerians as whole ‘to cut their coat’ according to their income when making their decisions in building their house, noting that it was imperative to engage in what they could afford while planning to erect their houses, thus, mansions were meant for some richer while a room and parlour were also meant for some average Nigerians in the country,

According to him; “Many times people get stuck in their building projects because they copied what they see others are constructing, which is beyond even their budget, but once you could engaged in what your budget could be afforded, then, you will have time in completing the structure of the house your purse could be done without abandoning it in the half way,”
