Soludo Hails Broad Political Support for Tinubu’s Re-election Bid
The Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has described the political support expressed for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the inauguration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council as an unusual development in Nigeria’s democratic history.
Speaking at the inauguration in Abuja on Wednesday, October 14, Soludo said the gathering demonstrated an exceptional level of political cooperation among influential stakeholders, including governors and political figures from different party backgrounds.
According to a report issued by the Media and Publicity Team of the Forum of Chief Executives of Federal Parastatals (FORCEPA), Soludo’s remarks focused on cross-party cooperation, economic reforms and the relationship between political leadership and national development.
The governor, who was elected on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), said his party’s support for Tinubu was informed by shared interests in national unity, security and economic prosperity.
Soludo drew attention to the participation of approximately 31 governors at the gathering, describing it as evidence of a broad political alignment around the President. However, the presence of political leaders at the event should not necessarily be interpreted as a formal endorsement by every governor or as a reflection of the views of all Nigerian voters.
The former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria also used the occasion to assess the economic philosophy underpinning the Tinubu administration’s policies.
Drawing on his background as an economist, Soludo described the administration’s approach as pragmatic progressivism, arguing that its economic decisions reflected a willingness to confront longstanding structural challenges rather than defer difficult policy choices.
He noted that the administration inherited an economy facing significant pressures and had introduced reforms aimed at stabilising the economy and laying the foundation for sustainable growth.
Soludo also highlighted Tinubu’s approach to public finance, arguing that the administration’s economic decisions should be assessed against the structural challenges confronting Nigeria before and after the President assumed office.
However, while supporters of the administration have cited its macroeconomic adjustments and reform initiatives as signs of progress, critics have expressed concerns about the immediate effects of the policies on households, businesses and the general cost of living.
Despite these concerns, Soludo maintained that the administration’s reform agenda represented an effort to address deep-rooted economic problems and establish a foundation for long-term national prosperity.
His participation in the APC Presidential Campaign Council’s inauguration was also noteworthy because he remains a member of APGA, underscoring the complexities of political cooperation across party lines in Nigeria.
The FORCEPA Media and Publicity Team noted that Soludo’s intervention brought economic policy and institutional performance into the broader discussion surrounding the 2027 presidential election.
As a forum comprising chief executives of federal parastatals, FORCEPA emphasised the importance of public institutions in implementing government policies, documenting development programmes and providing Nigerians with accurate information about public-sector performance.
